Jesus told the story of a wise man who built his house upon a rock. When the winds, rains and floods came, the house stayed strong on that rock solid foundation. But a foolish man built his house on sand. In bad weather, then house was lost. (See Matthew 7:24-27)
His point: Everyone needs a solid foundation for life—otherwise we’re vulnerable.
Do you have a solid foundation?
Recently while hiking Stonewall Peak I came across a tree growing on a rock.

Other passages say similar things about having a rock solid foundation for life:
“The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established forever.” (Proverbs 10:8, 25 ESV)
“The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand.” (Proverbs 12:7 ESV)
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6 ESV)
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1 ESV)
