Build Stuff That Will Last

Updated: Mar 28, 2019

While on a Prayer Retreat recently, I hiked by the Sikes Adobe here in San Diego County. It was built in 1870 and is the only remaining building of Bernardo, California (near the current area called Rancho Bernardo). It reminded me of the importance of building stuff that will last.

So much of what we work so hard to build here on earth will soon pass away. The company we work for, the trophies we win, the money we earn, the business we build, even the children we raise. All of these are temporary, lasting from a few years to perhaps a century.

Sorry if this is disappointing thought for you. But if you haven’t thought much about it, this is a good time to start.

Only a few things will last for eternity. According to the Bible, those are:

The souls of men, women and children. The Word of God.

That is good news for those who connect these two. When people know the Lord, and live by His Word, they build stuff that will last forever.

Which is the point of this short video: Build stuff that will last! Build your life on the Bible. Help others do the same. Focus on eternity.

As quoted in the video, C. T. Studd said, “Only on life, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

As a follower of Jesus, it is so very encouraging to know that I can build things that will last for eternity! Sure, other pursuits have meaning. But even working as President of the United States, or leader of another country, is not as significant as investing in eternity.

Jesus said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36 KJV)

So invest wisely! Build stuff that will last for eternity!
